After Hurriyat (M) split, Tota forms another party

Rising Kashmir News Srinagar, Jan 8: Many separatist leaders and activists Wednesday formed an accord and joined the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League (JKPL) under the chairmanship of Bashir Ahmad Tota. The leaders and activists from both Hurriyat (G) and Hurriyat (M) unanimously decided to join the JKPL and chose Tota as the chairman. Later, while addressing a press conference, Tota said that it was the hard work of 10 years that members from various groups have finally gathered under the ambit of JKPL to take the movement to its logical end. He said at least 35 members, who remained scattered, have united for a common cause. “We would oppose every move which goes against freedom struggle,” he said. Tota said the party will issue a white paper against “those who are anti-struggle.” He further said that some separatist groups ‘pretending to represent sentiments of people’ were in a process forming an accord with New Delhi. “We know them and we will expose them if they don’t retreat from their dubious standpoint,” he claimed. Tota said PL would not allow “few parties to sell blood of martyrs to New Delhi.” Tota termed the recent Hurriyat (M) split as unfortunate. “We believe in unity. Even if there is difference of opinion, it is better to be united.”
