DH Handwara becomes valley's first hospital to perform first-stroke thrombolysis

The District Hospital Handwara on Monday achieved acclaim by successfully carrying out the first thrombolysis on a patient with a stroke at the health institution.
Thrombolysis, also known as thrombolytic therapy, is a treatment procedure used to dissolve dangerous clots in the blood, particularly in the case of stroke victims.
Divulging details, the in-charge medical superintendent of District Hospital Handwara, Dr Aijaz, told Rising Kashmir the first stroke thrombolysis in Kashmir was done in District Hospital Handwara.
He said, the patient Fazie wife of Khazir Mohammad Bhat resident of Shatgund Bala Mawar (Handwara) with known c/o HTN, AF with ECHO. Mild AS, Mod.MR Sev.PAH. Presented with a home history of weakness left side of the body with slurring of speech with BP:150/90. CT: normal NIHSS Score-18-20 Case was discussed with save brain group neurologists, recently made through DHS Kashmir.
He stated the patient has advised thrombolysis within Tenect plase 12mgi/v over 5-7minutes. The above injection was given one and a half hours from the time of onset of the stroke.
Patients were managed trauma room of the hospital by Dr Iqbal (consultant medicine) Javid Ahmad, EMT trauma room Shakir EMT trauma room.
Later the patient was referred to SKIMS Soura in 108 Ambulance for further management with stable vitals.
It is important to note here that the hospital has performed some major surgeries in the recent past that were never conducted by any district hospitals across the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
