Ready for the floor test: Qadri
Ahead of Mayor polls scheduled on Thursday, around 38 corporators at Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) filed a no-confidence motion against Deputy Mayor Parvez Qadri, officials said on Wednesday.
SMC Commissioner, Gazanafar Ali told Rising Kashmir that around 38 corporators have filed a no-confidence motion against the Deputy Mayor Parvez Qadri and floor test for the same would be held after Mayor elections.
“We received representation of 38 corporators by Ghulam Nabi Bhat, a corporator from ward no 08 and it was presented by Tanveer Pathan from ward 08 and floor test would be conducted likely after Mayor polls,” he said.
Ghulam Nabi Bhat, who filed the no-confidence motion against the deputy the mayor told Rising Kashmir that Qadri had turned SMC into the defunct institution.
“From the past one month, he has done nothing except sitting in his office at SMC. Srinagar has crossed 3 digit numbers in COVID-19 cases and nothing is being done on the ground,” he alleged.
As per Bhat, they have submitted a no-confidence motion against deputy mayor and claimed he had the support of 47 corporators but they had submitted signatures of 38 only.
“Qadri has completely failed his duties neither any development has been done nor he was active on ground during COVID-19 pandemic like former mayor Junaid Azim Mattu used to be,” he alleged.
“We had elected him but he was not been working as per the expectations of the people and that is why we removed him,” he said.
However, former deputy mayor Parvez Qadri stated that he is ready to face the floor test. “The no-confidence motion was mutually filed by Tanveer Pathan and Gulam Nabi Bhat and they are claiming support of 38 corporators,” he said.
“Mattu has created a group here and alleged that he is in depression as he was removed from Mayor post and he is behind all this. Every corporator is well aware by this fact,” he alleged.
On 13 January, Qadri was elected as SMC’s deputy mayor and secured 33 votes in his favour. While the BJP’s councillor, Arif Majeed Pampori, secured 24 votes.
Earlier on June 16, following the no-confidence motion filed by 43 Independent Corporators, former SMC Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu was removed from his post. Later he blamed BJP, NC, and few independent Corporators for his removal.
Meanwhile, Former (SMC) Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu and former deputy mayor Sheikh Mohammad Imran has filed their nomination papers for the post of Mayor. The elections for the mayor post are scheduled on the 16th of this month.
