When Jerusalem attains the center stage, Medina will be in ruins, when Medina will be in ruins the great war (Armageddon) will take place, when the great war takes place you (Muslims) will conquer Constantinople, when you conquer Constantinople Dajjal will appear in person: Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
The conquest of Constantinople is of a paramount significance insofar as Islamic eschatological process is concerned. Many Islamic scholars believe that the conquest has already taken place when Sultan Mehmed II liberated Constantinople from the Orthodox Christianity in 1453.
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “You will certainly conquer Constantinople, He eulogized the army and the commander of the army.” On the basis of this hadith majority of the Islamic scholarship has uncritically conceded that the conquest has already taken place.
When Sultan Mehmed II besieged the Constantinople, the Orthodox Christianity put a plea to Sultan Mehmed II in which they acknowledged that Orthodox Christians would pay tributes (Jizya) to the Ottoman Islamic Empire meaning they didn’t want war. They accepted the sovereignty of Ottoman Islamic Empire tacitly inclined to peace. Unfortunately, this request of Orthodox Christianity was repudiated by Sultan Mehmed II.
Allah says in the Quran in Surah Anfal Chapter 8 Verse 61, “And if enemy inclines to peace, you too incline to it and place your trust in Allah.”
Taking this verse as a yardstick, the famous Islamic eschatologist, Sheikh Imran Hosein doesn’t acknowledge the Islamic nature of the conquest of 1453 by Sultan Mehmed II.
According to the Sheikh, adherence to the payment of Jizya indicated that Orthodox Christianity yearned for peace and not war. Even after this cordial attempt by the Orthodox Christianity, the Sultan assailed and conquered the city of Constantinople going against the Quranic commandment.
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, “When Jerusalem attains the center stage, Medina will be in ruins, when Medina will be in ruins the great war (Armageddon) will take place, when the great war takes place you (Muslims) will conquer Constantinople, when you conquer Constantinople Dajjal (the Anti-Christ) will appear in person.”
When we go through this hadith, we come to know that the conquest of Constantinople will come about after the ‘Great War’ takes place. This ‘Great War’ which is mentioned in the hadith has not yet taken place but is just around the corner.
The Hadith further divulges that after the conquest, Dajjal will appear in person. So, if the conquest of 1453 was the same conquest about which the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) informed us, why did not Dajjal appear in person after 1453?
The three events, Armageddon, conquest of Constantinople and appearance of Dajjal in person, they will take place either within seven months or seven years.
And according to Abu Dawood seven years’ time period seems to be more appropriate than seven months. This expounds immaculately that the conquest of Constantinople is still awaited.
