With 240 fresh cases, tally 9501
Five more persons including three women died of COVID-19 in Kashmir during the past 24 hours, taking the death in J&K toll to 152, officials said.
A 65-year-old woman from Kulgam died at SKIMS Medical College and Hospital, Bemina, a dedicated coronavirus hospital.
Doctors at the hospital said the woman was suffering from breathlessness and other underlying ailments including hypertension and was admitted on July 8.
A 60-year-old coronavirus positive woman from Mamoosa area of Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district died at Chest Disease Hospital, Srinagar.
Medical Superintendent CD Hospital, Dr Saleem Tak said the woman was suffering from hypertension and bilateral pneumonia.
Two deaths were reported at SMHS hospital. A 70-year-old woman from Natipora Srinagar who was admitted at SMHS Hospital on June 1 died Thursday morning.
The hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr Nazir H Choudary said the deceased was suffering from community-acquired pneumonia, diabetes, and hypertension.
A 70-year-old man from Pulwama who was suffering from bilateral pneumonia died at SMHS Hospital, three days after he was admitted there.
The fifth death was reported from south Kashmir's Shopian district.
With the five fresh casualties, the death toll due to coronavirus has soared to 154 in J&K that includes 140 from Kashmir and 14 from Jammu.
As per the government, Srinagar has witnessed 37 deaths, Baramulla 31, Kulgam 18, Shopian 15, Anantnag 12, Budgam 11, Jammu eight, Kupwara seven, Pulwama five, Bandipora three, Doda two, and Ganderbal, Udhampur, Kathua, Poonch, and Rajouri one each.
Not only the deaths but the coronavirus positive cases too continue to go up in J&K with Thursday witnessing 240 fresh cases including 185 from Kashmir and 55 from Jammu, taking the total infection tally to 9501.
Thursday’s cases include 58 from Srinagar, 37 from Baramulla, Kupwara 32, Budgam and Rajouri 18 each, Ganderbal 14, Jammu 12, Samba nine, Anantnag eight, Shopian seven, Bandipora and Poonch five each, Pulwama, Kathua and Kishtwar four each, Doda three, and Kulgam two.
Of these cases, 43 samples returned positive at the Viral Diagnostic and Research Lab (VDRL) of SKIMS, Srinagar, which tested 639 samples during the past 24 hours.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan said these include 14 from Budgam, 11 from Srinagar, Bandipora and Baramulla five each, Ganderbal three, Anantnag two, and Shopian, Kulgam and Kupwara one each.
The COVID-19 testing lab of SKIMS Medical College and Hospital, Bemina Wednesday tested 443 samples of which 14 returned positive.
These cases are from Shopain.
The coronavirus dedicated hospital has so far admitted 697 positive cases of which 588 have been discharged while 102 are undergoing treatment.
The hospital has also conducted 31 lower segment caesarean section (LSCS) surgeries and 21 normal deliveries of pregnant women who tested positive for COVID-19.
The government said of the total 4,29,787 test results available, 4,20,286 returned negative and 9501 positive which include 3652 active positive cases while 5695 have recovered and been discharged including 128 persons discharged during the past 24 hours.
It said, so far, 3,06,434 persons had been put under observation including 38,939 in home quarantine, 3652 in hospital isolation, and 44 in hospital quarantine while 45,713 people are under home surveillance and 2,17,932 persons have completed their surveillance period.
So far, Kashmir has reported 7504 cases while Jammu division has reported 1997 cases.
In Kashmir, Srinagar tops the list with 1451 cases followed by Baramulla with 1214, Kulgam 930, Shopian 873, Anantnag 764, Kupwara 676, Pulwama 593, Budgam 522, Bandipora 328, and Ganderbal 153.
In Jammu division, Jammu district has 429 cases followed by Udhampur with 298, Kathua 265, Ramban 243, Samba 217, Rajouri 189, Poonch 137, Doda 123, Reasi 52, and Kishtwar 44.
J&K has so far reported 154 deaths to coronavirus pandemic of which 140 have been reported from Kashmir division.
