Covid-19: JK records 105 fresh cases, tally sours to 2446

16 pregnant women, CD Hospital’s nursing orderly among 90 fresh cases in Kashmir

Jammu Kashmir recorded 105 COVID-19 cases on Sunday including 90 in Kashmir division, bringing the total number of cases to 2446 including 1832 reported in May alone.
Today’s cases include 24 from Anantnag, followed by Kulgam with 17, Baramulla 15, Budgam 11, Kupwara 10, Srinagar eight, Jammu six, three each from Kathua and Rajouri, two each from Shopian and Ramban, and one from Samba.
Of these cases, 50 tested positive at the microbiology lab of the Chest Disease (CD) Hospital Srinagar that tested 510 samples during the past 24 hours.
Nodal Officer for COVID-19 measures, GMC Srinagar, Dr M Salim Khan said the cases include 17 from Kulgam, Baramulla 15, Anantnag 12, Pulwama three and one each from Srinagar, Shopian and Baramulla.
He said the 50 cases include 16 pregnant women, 10 of them from Baramulla followed by Kulgam with five and one from Anantnag.
A nursing orderly posted at the CD Hospital’s testing lab is among the positive cases.
The Viral Diagnostic and Research Lab (VDRL) of SKIMS, Srinagar Sunday tested 372 samples of which 10 returned positive for the novel coronavirus.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan said the cases include nine from Kupwara and one from Srinagar, all having recently travelled from outside J&K.
The coronavirus testing lab of SKIMS Medical College and Hospital (MCH) Bemina tested 384 samples in the past 24 hours of which two cases returned positive.
Officials said both are men from Hyderpora Srinagar.
At the SKIMS Bemina lab, at least 369 samples are under process.
Of the total cases, the month of May alone has witnessed 1832 cases.
On April 30, the number of positive cases was 614.
The government said, of the 1,71,045 test results available, 1,68,599 returned negative and 2446 positive which include 1491 active positive cases while 927 have recovered and been discharged including 19 persons discharged during the past 24 hours.
It said, so far, 1,72,844 persons had been put under observation including 38,572 in home quarantine, 1491 in hospital isolation, and 45 in hospital quarantine while 46,419 people are under home surveillance and 86,289 persons have completed their surveillance period.
In Kashmir, Anantnag has 338 cases, followed by Kulgam with 294, Srinagar 280, Kupwara 268, Baramulla 232, Shopian 170, Bandipora 146, Budgam 110, Pulwama 73 and Ganderbal 32.
In Jammu division, Jammu district has 136 positive cases followed by Ramban with 91, Kathua 73, Udhampur 65, Samba 43, Poonch 38, Rajouri 30, Reasi 14, Kishtwar eight and Doda five.
J&K has so far recorded 28 deaths to coronavirus of which 25 were reported from Kashmir.
