Divine Fear: Pandemic Positives

  • Noblest of all creatures has been reduced to a caged bird
  • Corona has taught us God’s omnipotence
  • We come to know how much the mortal being is afraid of death
  • Are we ready to die or are our good deeds not enough to land us in heaven?
  • Invisible virus has trampled world’s most powerful countries
  • Lockdown has significantly reduced the crime rate
  • Closing of factories, industries significantly reduced emission of toxic substances which has resulted in less pollution

Though corona has brought the universal clock to a screeching halt and created havoc globally, it has set some important lessons in front of us. Such occasions are to be welcomed for they make us realize that there is someone who has absolute authority over universe and who is commandingly operating it.

Irony is that Ashraf-ul-Makhluqat (that is the noblest of all creatures) has been reduced to a mere ‘caged bird’, whose wings are clipped and voice choked. Life looks meaningless to him. Other creatures can roam freely, they don’t fear in the face of current adversity. The time’s fury has turned our whole concept of life topsy-turvy. It has taught the omnipotence of God on one hand and ephemerality of universe on the other. People have started feeling the fear of divine entity and realized that the ultimate way of seeking refuge from the natural calamity rests in shunning of ‘seven deadly sins’. Fear of divine entity have started looming to the extent that the sole way of having peace of mind seems only in devotion to God and protection from it seems only in repentance.

So it has woken us all to understand the realities of universe and has given us opportunity to plead for His forgiveness. People have realized that there is something superior to science and stopped relying completely on science and technology. Another important lesson which corona has set in front of us on a positive note is how much the mortal being is afraid of death despite knowing the fact that death is inevitable and every soul has to taste it. Are we ready to die or are our good deeds not enough to land us in heaven? Corona has made us to ponder upon such facts as well.

Isn’t it ironical that world’s richest and most powerful countries that have been making tall claims about their powerful stands are trampled underfoot by the invisible virus? From US to other most developed countries, all are feeling benumbed in front of it and have been shown their worth. They have been the hardest hit in the world placing all their citizens under complete lockdown. America is among the topmost slots and has already crossed the grim milestone of one lakh deaths due to Covid-19. They have started politicizing the coronavirus. Many Americans are of the opinion that Trump has not handled the pandemic properly.

In a blame game the former president of America Barack Obama accused Donald Trump and said “more than anything, this pandemic has fully, finally torn back the curtain that so many of the folks in charge know what they’re doing.” He further added, “A lot of them aren’t even pretending to be in charge.” Trump while hitting out at him called him “grossly incompetent” president. Thus corona flummoxed the dictators of the world who have always been displaying their might.

Since the beginning of corona, there has not been a single day which has not begun with the corona related deaths of people, but there are some positive sides of it too as it is said every cloud has a silver lining. During the ongoing lockdown, people got enough time to spend with their families; so the value of life, value of relationship and value of unity is understood.  Night clubs, brothels, betting houses which are considered as a hub of immoral and socially unacceptable activities are closed. Lockdown has significantly reduced the crimes like rape, assault, robbery etc. Many measures have been taken collectively on a global level to stop its spread.

Most of the factories and industries have been closed for an indefinite period, this has a great effect upon environment and so there is significantly a less emission of toxic substances from these industries which have resulted in less pollution. The annoying raucous sounds produced by vehicles have been replaced by the chirping of the birds. So nature has started looking beautiful, animals have started living and people have started breathing comparatively clean air post lock down.

Festival celebrations were limited to restricted places only. Post-Covid festivals were comparatively less pompous and extravagant. On a positive note it has set a lesson for us how to celebrate such occasions with least pomp and show and lavishness. The markets which used to be jammed with activities look deserted and people can be seen overtly much concerned about those in needs. Thus although Coronavirus continues its deadly path, it has on a positive side proved itself a blessing in disguise.
