The government has reduced eligibility criteria for admission to diploma engineering courses to 35 percent marks for secondary schools students against the existing 40 percent marks.
In this regard, Jammu and Kashmir Technical Education Department issued an order and also changes the nomenclature of the department from Technical Education Department to Department of Skill Development and Directorate of Technical Education to Directorate of Skill Development.
“Dispensing with the process of entrance examination for admission into Polytechnic Colleges of Jammu and Kashmir from 2021 and assigning the task of admission and counseling to Polytechnic Colleges from JK Board of Professional Entrance Examination (JKBOPEE) to J&K Board of Technical Education (JKBOTE),” reads the government.
The department also said that the admission in Polytechnics shall be done by JKBOTE as per AICTE norms, and shall be based on the basis of academic merit in 10th class examination.
“The eligibility criteria for admission to diploma engineering courses is reduced to 35 percent marks (10th /SSC) as per AICTE guidelines as against existing 40 percent marks,” it reads.
The government also said that the utilization of vacant seats of diploma courses shall be filled by the institutions at their own level, after centralized counseling by JKBOTE is over, which shall be done by or before 10th of July of every year.
The last date for making such admissions shall, however, be 15th of August, as prescribed by the AICTE.
In the order the government has also said that the admission to vacant lateral entry seats in diploma engineering will be filled by the institutions at their own level by adopting same procedure as is adopted for direct admission, after BOTE exhausts all the rounds of counseling.
