Highway ban

The Government issued an order thereby restricting civilian traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in order to provide safe passage to forces convoy. It said the ban shall remain in force till May 31, 2019 and for two days in a week from 4 am to 5 pm on Sunday and Wednesday. This order comes in force keeping in view the fear of attack on forces and keeping in view the large movement of forces on the highway during parliamentary elections. The highway starting from Kathua to Leh is the lifeline for Kashmir and Ladakh. All the supplies to the Valley of Kashmir and Ladakh have to pass through the highway in the absence of rail connectivity .Since the road to Valley and Ladakh gets cut off due to snowfall, rains and landslides during winter, all the essential commodities have to be stocked well in advance to face six months of inclement weather of winter season. Due to the closure of roads people are facing lot of problems and hardship children can't go to schools, doctors can't reach hospitals, the employees and workers can't attend to their engagement while businessmen also suffer massively. It is suggested that that the government should deployed magistrates at strategic spots on the road to issue on the spot permission to the people in an emergency like delivery cases, accidents and critical condition of patients so that the problem may be tackled otherwise the decision to close the highway is considered as inhuman and undemocratic.
