On face masks

Even though facemask is a boon to us it is even a curse, as we get irritated while using it

Humans are social beings; social restrictions during pandemic are unavoidable.Covid-19 is aerosolized droplets generated through coughing, sneezing and breathing. Super markets, cine halls, marriageparties, malls, departmental stores are an essential part of life. Obviously, people from all walks of life visit all kinds of these places. It’s well understood that droplets can convey the corona virus. It became very difficult for children and adolescence to play with masks. Is maintaining social distance possible? Wearing a maskand maintaining socialdistance are the least you can do when you are out with many people. It’s our responsibility to protect others as well. The risk of transmission of Covid-19 virus is face to face; use of facemask may prevent cross infection. However, various research studies proved that use of surgical mask are more effective in protection than N95 and multi-layered mask; but surgical mask has to be changed after every 6 hours.WHO recommended all people and especially people aged above 60 and the ones existing with medical conditions like Diabetes mellitus, Hypertension etc.to wear medical facemasks when physical distancing is not possible.

There are different types offacemask i.e. surgical mask, N95 or FFP2 masks, and clothface covering masks. Surgical mask shield against large cough, Sneeze droplets, Splashes, sprays but cannot protect against smaller droplets. Respirations masks such as N95 and FFP2/3 forms have tangled fibres to filter pathogens in the air. It is fit close to the face and sealed around the mouth and nose. The Director-General of Health Services, Ministry of Health, Government of India, has warned against the "inappropriate use of N95 masks, especially those containing ‘respiratory valves’ to aid breathability, saying that they could be counter-productive to the idea of containing COVID-19.

Cloth masks proved its efficiency on cotton, chiffon and synthetic etc. CDC has given guidance on wearing cloth face mask and advised that while wearing mask ensure that face covering does not cause difficulty in breathing; check that face mask covers both nose and mouth, make sure that a person can heighten or secure the covering to prevent it from slipping, fit the covering enough, so there are no gaps. Wash the face covering masks after each use.WHO suggested that not to touch the facemask frequently and while removing a mask, a person should do so from behind to avoid touching the front of it.Even though mask is a boon to us it is even a curse, as we get irritated while using it. Let’swear facemaskand fight the new coronavirus.
