The ace Volleyballer of Jammu and Kashmir, Saqlain Tariq has been selected by Volleyball Federation of India which is affiliated to the International Volleyball Federation and Indian Olympic Association, for the upcoming BRICS Games to represent Under-21 Men’s Indian Volleyball team at Johannesburg, South Africa.
The BRICS – Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, the host – are participating in BRICS Games which is scheduled to be held from 17th to 22nd July 2018.

Hailing from the remote area of Poonch district Saqlain started his volleying journey from Under-14 age group.
“It’s the blessing of Allah, as a father of Saqlain I can’t express my emotions,” said Saqlain’s volleyball mentor cum father, Mohammad Tariq Khan when talking to Rising Kashmir.
Saqlain belongs to the family which has the legacy to play volleyball at State and national level. Saqlain’s father Mohammad Tariq Khan has himself remained a volleyball player and has represented the State in eighties and nineties.
“It is because of his hard work and dedication that he got selected for this prestigious Championship. He made it to the Indian team without any sifaarish (recommendation) and I’m proud of my son,” Mohammad Tariq expressed.
Apart from attending Junior and Senior camps, Saqlain has also represented Punjab Volleyball team in sub-junior and junior category.
“When I realized his volleyball instincts are growing and has that potential to reach at higher level then I took hard decision to send him outside the state (Punjab) for better avenues, training facilities and infrastructure which lacks in J&K. Later on after showing his mettle there he was inducted in Punjab team,” he said.
Based on his performance in Asian Camp that was held in Patiala Punjab, Saqlain was selected by Volleyball Federation of India for BRICS Games.
“I took efforts to send him outside the state and my efforts are bearing fruits now. Today parents aspire that their children should become doctors and engineers but I wanted my child to grow in sports and make his name in this field. I’m thankful to Allah and I feel very proud!” Tariq adds.
