We need to meet the challenge of increasing traffic in a methodical way as whenever we hear about some special drive to free the city roads of the traffic jams caused by wrong parking of vehicles, the enthusiasm lasts for only few days. Afterwards it is back to routine. Although any such drive is a welcome step and is always needed, particularity in view of the fact that the amount of traffic on our roads is increasing with every passing day, but it must be a part of some long term policy. This policy has to take into account diverse factors. Simply not allowing the vehicles to stop anywhere is not the solution. After all if vehicles are not allowed to park near markets, business of the valley is bound to suffer. Traffic Department cannot allow parking of vehicles on the roads as it leads to horrible traffic jams causing painful delays to passengers and private vehicles. On the other hand shopkeepers cannot witness drop in their business and remain silent. After all what is the point in having a business place in the posh market and then doing a meagre business? The only way out is to have enough parking places in and around these markets. This way traffic department will be relieved of the pressure that they find themselves under when a wrongly parked vehicle results in a terrible traffic jam, and the customers will feel free to shop in the market. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough space earmarked for the parking of vehicles. It is for the concerned sections to think about creating more space for parking and getting people rid of parking problems and traffic jams. For this purpose even private houses can be involved. It can open up a window of fresh business and employment. Government can provide space for a private concern and allow its usage for parking purpose. Private concerns can develop the infrastructure and the benefits can be shared by both.
