Several rural habitations in Kupwara are facing a habitual water problem since years.However the crisis has become worse in the last few days thus depriving people of basic drinking water facilities.
The depletion of groundwater is also a major cause of worry among the people of Kupwara. Although few schemes have been launched by the government to overcome the water crisis, no such developments are seen on the ground and the problems are worsening day by day. Farmers fear failure of standing crops amid summer as groundwater levels fell .
Most Of the wells do not have water. Many parts of Kupwara especially, Drugmulla, its adjoining Gulshan Qasmia ,Bumhama, Anderhama , Matipora and other areas are facing acute water shortage.
"We are suffering a lot .Our wells are dry and without water.The government should solve the matter at the earliest,'' said a senior citizen of Drugmulla Mehrajuddin shah.
Another resident Muneer Ahmad Of Drugmulla said that despite repeated appeals , pleads and requests the water scarcity still continues thus making commoners to suffer badly.
Meanwhile AEE, PHE (Kupwara) Mohammad Tayyib said "Our team is on job and efforts are being done to ensure regular water supply."
He assured that by the end of the year, all the schemes will be fully operational in the area.
