CWC warns against identity disclosure of vulnerable children

Srinagar, March 28: Child Welfare Committee Thursday warned against disclosure of identity of Children in Need of Care and Protection and Children in Conflict with Law.
In a samen issued, CWC said ha time and again media fraternity has been sensitised about the serious issue of disclosure of identity of Children in Need of Care and Protection and Children in Conflict with Law as it is a commission of offence punishable under the relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2015 [hereinafter referred to as 33 Act] for which the offender shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months or fine which may extend to two lakh rupees or both.
CWC said that some of the media persons after shooting videos of children in Child Care Institutions and Darul Alooms and other children in need of care and protection, making it viral on Facebook and other Social Media Platforms thereby committing offences.
CWC said that reports are pouring in for continuous violation of the laws on the subject.
Child Welfare Committee said that violations of such offences in no case are to be tolerated and therefore decided that such of the media persons who may violate the laws fearlessly shall have to be booked and punished under the relevant provisions of the 33 Act for which they can be either imprisoned for a term which may extend to six months or fine which may extend to two lakh rupees or both.
