Srinagar, Oct 25: In a remarkable shift from the conventional norms of hosting weddings abroad, the Kashmir Valley is gaining recognition as the ultimate wedding destination.
The Valley, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, has become the most-favored place for couples offering not only a picturesque backdrop but also a unique cultural experience.
The Department of Tourism has extended its support by opening up stunning properties like the Royal Spring Golf Course in Srinagar to accommodate these extravagant weddings. They are going above and beyond to assist wedding planners in making these events truly unforgettable for all involved.
According to government data, the past two years have witnessed approximately 150 destination weddings in the Kashmir Valley. What's even more astonishing is the recent surge in such celebrations following the pandemic. The Valley has welcomed couples and their guests with open arms, proving that it can rival international destinations in terms of charm and grandeur.
Last month, the Department of Tourism Kashmir also organized a familiarization, mice tourism tour for individuals and businesses involved in the wedding industry from Mumbai. This tour specifically targeted wedding planners, travel agents, hoteliers, and other stakeholders in the wedding corporation.
"Post Covid, the destination weddings have increased by a huge margin. Instead of going abroad, people are now exploring the beauty of the Kashmir Valley," says an official. In June, one of the grandest weddings to date took place at the world-famous Dal Lake, attracting international attention. The Valley's improved security situation and the prevailing peaceful environment have played a pivotal role in attracting couples looking to make their special day even more memorable.
"Kashmir Valley has tremendous natural beauty and magnificence. In the last few months, destination weddings have picked up in a big way. We have had some major destination weddings with the facilitation of the Department of Tourism," remarks Abid Rashid Shah, Secretary of Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir.
Apart from the sheer natural beauty and peaceful ambience, another factor contributing to the Valley's popularity is its ideal weather, especially during the summer months. Mild temperatures and clear skies create a comfortable environment for outdoor ceremonies and festivities, making it a top choice for couples seeking an unforgettable experience.
These destination weddings are not just about the couples tying the knot; they are catalysts for the local tourism industry. "J-K tourism helped them a lot. It benefits a lot of people related to the tourism industry like handicraft people, shikara operators, and taxi drivers," says an event planner who orchestrated one of the weddings of the decade with around 800 guests.
As the Kashmir Valley continues to captivate couples and their guests with its breathtaking beauty and rich cultural heritage, it seems destined to become an even more prominent hub for destination weddings, further enhancing the region's tourism potential.
