SRINAGAR, JUNE 07: In accordance with the government's policy of zero tolerance for anti-state activities, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) and the Executive Wing of J&K Police have broadened the legal framework against terror funding by attaching 124 properties, land, and buildings in 86 locations across J&K.
During the course of investigations in terrorism-related cases, these properties have been established prima facie to be either proceeds of terrorism or used in activities aimed at furthering terrorism and secessionism.
Invoking Sections 8 and 25 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), the SIA and the executive wing of the police, following orders from competent authorities designated under UAPA, have initiated legal proceedings for forfeiture of these tainted properties by courts with relevant legal and territorial jurisdiction.
Approximately 77 of these properties are owned by the proscribed organisation Jamat-e-Islami, which has been notified under Section 08 of the UAPA in Case FIR number 17/2019 U/S 10, 11, and 13 UA (P) Act of Police Station Batamaloo, which is being investigated by SIA.
In order to deracinate the terror support system, action was taken in accordance with due process of law, in accordance with the requirements of international charters and conventions against terrorism.
