Leh, Mar 27:SNM Hospital Leh has accomplished the region's first-ever Endoscopic Ureteric Stone Retrieval Surgery, marking a monumental leap in healthcare for the area. Spearheaded by Urologist Dr. Nawaz Ali and Senior Anaesthesiologist Dr. Tsering Morup, alongside their adept team, this feat signifies a significant advancement in medical services for the region.
The surgery, performed on a 26-year-old female patient diagnosed with a 10 mm right mid-ureteric stone and moderate hydroureteronephrosis, employed minimally invasive endoscopic techniques and state-of-the-art urosurgical equipment. The team achieved complete stone clearance with remarkable success, ushering in a new era of care for genito-uro-surgical patients in the vicinity.
Credit for this milestone is attributed to the visionary leadership of Director Health Services Ladakh & Medical Superintendent SNM Hospital, Leh, who foresaw the importance of acquiring advanced medical technologies. With these resources now at hand, Ladakh stands on par with super-specialty hospitals in other states, promising significant benefits for patients across the region.
Dr. Nawaz Ali, Urologist at SNM Hospital Leh, continues to conduct various urology endoscopic procedures such as TURP, TURBT, OIU, among others, on a routine basis, further bolstering the hospital's ability to deliver comprehensive urological care.
The tangible outcomes of this investment are evident in the swift recovery and discharge of the patient, contrasting sharply with the prolonged hospital admissions and unsightly scars associated with traditional open surgeries. This accomplishment underscores the steadfast commitment of Directorate Health Services, SNM Hospital Leh, Health Department Leh, NHM Ladakh, and the Health and Medical Education Department, Administration of UT Ladakh, to furnish tertiary-level healthcare facilities to the populace of Ladakh.
