Budgam, Sep 14: Government Middle School in Heewooder village of central Kashmir’s Budgam district has only four rooms for students of nine classes.

The locals as well as students told Rising Kashmir that the government constructed the school 35 years ago; however, most of the students still attend classes in open sky due to lack of space.

Ghulam Hassan, Sarpanch of the village, said the school has enrolled more than 80 students from KG to 8th grade. He said there were just three classrooms in the old building which got cracked. In 2007, another classroom was constructed by the government under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan scheme, he said.

The students from the school said that due to the paucity of space in the school, they are attending classes in the open field.

“We are attending classes jointly as there is no other option available to us. Due to this, we are unable to focus properly on our studies,” said a student.

They have requested Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Deputy Commissioner Budgam and Project Director Samagra Shiksha J&K to construct a new school building where all necessary arrangements would be available for them.

An official from the Chief Education Office Budgam said the issue has been brought to the notice of the district administration Budgam.
