Srinagar, Jan 19: Two sisters among three siblings from a distant village in Doda district qualified for the J&K administrative service (JKAS) examination, the results of which were announced on Thursday. 

Huma Anjum Wani, Ifra Anjum Wani, and Suhail Ahmad Wani, from the distant village Kahi Trankhal in the Bhaleesa district of Doda, qualified for the prestigious exam. 

Suhail, the youngest of the three siblings, secured 111th with 1055 points, while Huma Anjum secured 117th with 1050.5 points and Ifra secured143rd with 1034.5 points among the 187 successive candidates 

Huma is the elder sibling and it was her second attempt. She had pursued MSC Physics. She had remained unsuccessful in 2018. While Suhail and Ifra Anjum have pursued Post Graduation in Political Science.

Ifra told Rising Kashmir that entire family is happy as all three siblings have qualified JKAS at the same time. We had always in-house completion that always kept us motivating and encouraging,” she said.

“We used to distribute books. We used to read in a single room as per our timetable. Consistency and continuity is main thing to crack such exams. It is important to keep track of things. We cracked exam without any coaching,” Ifra said.

Amid tears rolling from her eyes, she said three siblings faced financial constraints as their father lost his investments. Even some time we were unable to get proper notes, books but parents kept us motivating,” she said.

Ifra said when she was in 11th Class, she had a dream to qualify the exam along with my brother. Later my elder sister also joined for full-time preparations in 2021 to crack the prestigious exam.

“Our parents did everything to support our education. Our mother sold her all jewellery, belonging to get us books and study material. She encouraged, and motivated us always,” she added.

Suhail Ahmad, who became youngest JKAS officer to qualify for exams at 23 years of age, told Rising Kashmir that it is the happiest moment for entire family. It seems our dream has come true. Our family struggled a lot for our education, he said.

Recalling days when his father had a financial problem, he approached many but most of relatives and friends criticised him for educating girls. He did not lose the faith in Almighty and worked day, night for us.

 “None among us had a mobile phone. We were using mother’s phone for any usage. We worked really hard work and focused on study,” he said.

Suhail said they (three siblings) were inspired by their father who always wanted to serve their state, country and society. He treated all siblings equally and wanted to educate them.

“From 2021 onwards, I worked hard and we were studying from 8-10 hours daily. My family could not have afforded our couching and started preparation for the JKAS,” he said.

Suhail says it was 2017, when he finally decided to prepare for the exams. After graduation, there were struggles but i concentrated on studies.

About message for aspiring candidates, Suhail said they should prepare exam with consistency and dedication. They should understand their hidden capabilities and trust themselves, he said.

Huma Anjum credited her family for the success who became part of her journey. She also said hard work and dedication were key to success.

“To crack the examination, it is hard work and consistency. One needs to maintain consistency throughout the preparations. Study hours can vary, but studying daily is important,” she said.

Rehana Begum, mother of three JKAS siblings told Rising Kashmir ‘’it is happy movement of for entire family. I had full faith on my children and they did as per my expectations.’’

“All praises to Almighty, my children worked hard and studied entire day and night. We struggled a lot and we had dream to that they should serve the society. There was a time when I sold my belongings for their education and now Allah has given me back,” she said. 

The preliminary examination for JKAS was conducted on October 24, 2021 in which 20790 candidates appeared in the examination. 4462 candidates were declared qualified for the Mains Exam which was conducted from April 8, 2022 to April 18, 2022 at both Jammu and Srinagar in which total 3916 candidates appeared for the exam.
