Udhampur,Mar 31: In a display of outstanding athleticism and skill, the Udhampur district girls and Jammu boys emerged victorious in the 35th J&K UT Junior Volleyball Championship. The closing day witnessed intense battles on the court, culminating in historic wins for both teams.

The Udhampur girls team etched their names in the annals of the sport's history by clinching the championship title in the girls' section. They secured their victory by defeating the formidable Samba district girls' team with a score of 3-1 sets (25-12, 28-26, 22-25, 25-23). Meanwhile, the Jammu boys showcased their dominance, retaining their title by overpowering the Samba district with a resounding 3-0 sets victory (25-12, 25-18, 25-15).

Rahul Yadav, Commissioner JMC, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, presenting trophies and prizes to the winning and runner-up teams, as well as to the technical officials and office bearers of various district Volleyball Associations of J&K. Speaking at the event, Yadav emphasized the pivotal role of sports in shaping society, urging participants to uphold the values of democracy and combat the scourge of drug abuse.

The championship, spanning three days, saw over 400 players and officials from across JKUT engage in 60 matches, tirelessly working in floodlit courts. Dignitaries announced cash prizes totaling Rs. 40,000 for outstanding players and the top four teams.

Vijay Kumar Magotra, General Secretary VAJK, expressed gratitude to the collaborators and stakeholders for their contributions to the championship's success. He highlighted the participation of teams from diverse districts, underscoring the event's inclusivity and reach.

The closing ceremony saw the felicitation of dignitaries, including Sh. Raj Daluja, patron-in-chief Volleyball Association of J&K, who conveyed his best wishes to all participants. Notable attendees included officials from various sports associations and media persons, who witnessed the culmination of an exhilarating tournament.

The matches were officiated by a panel of recognized referees, ensuring fair play and adherence to regulations. The results underscored the spirit of competition and excellence, showcasing the talent and dedication of young athletes from across the region.
